Heard about My Harvest America? My Harvest America was a discount grocery network marketing company (mlm) that changed midstream to a discount gift card mlm membership service. It is now out of business.
My Harvest America started off as one of the few network marketing companies that appealed to the masses. This was because the products are what everybody needs, it's because lots of folks need money now more than ever and they probably figure who wouldn't want to join a membership club to get their groceries cheaper.
Back at the beginning, people learned they would save more money than their membership cost by purchasing the food without taxes or shipping costs and that they could benefit even if they never signed up one person. But there's money to be made in recruiting and there's gasoline to be earned by "shoppers telling shoppers". So MHA prospered for a few months.
Was My Harvest America possibly where people would "go back to" telling their friends, family and neighbors; "Want to save money on your food bill? Want some free gasoline"? The response may seem obvious. And the website had a video on it that "sells" the opportunity for you. Seemed easy enough, right? Yet, there's lot's of people I have personally found who were not convinced or ready to join. I personally did not join and I'm glad I didn't.
For example, even though this was brand name food and groceries, the selection was limited. As far as cereals go, MHA offered Wheaties, Corn Flakes, Honey Bunches Of Oats and Banana Nut from Post. And there were other choices as well. But there are a ton of choices at the store and MHA didn't seem to have them.
Obviously, not all groceries or foods were available. You still had to go to the store to get fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, frozen foods and meats. And the savings may be up to 50% off retail, but compared to Walmart or Target, what would the price difference be? So you don't really save on gas to the store.
In California, if you just saved on taxes alone, that would save us almost 9%. Yet, with revenue lost for a financially distraught State, will the Attorney General come after My Harvest America and demand these losses? Something to think about. And who would complain of the free delivery. That's convenience too.
With sudden and quick growth, My Harvest America seemed to be equipped to handle a lot of sales although their timing for opening was poor, a few days before The Holidays. The My Harvest America offices are out of Surprise Arizona and the food would come from Michigan, where a lot of it is packaged. It would take a few days to arrive anywhere in the country and longer to Hawaii and Alaska.
Has there ever been a food based network marketing company before? Yes, there has, back in the mid 90's. And as with all good mlm companies, they are only as good as the leadership and executive team behind it. The executives behind My Harvest America are Ron Ellis and Fred Weih. Here's the last we heard from them: MHA Files Bankruptcy.
Was the My Harvest America Compensation Plan a good one? The fact that it was a matrix isn't important. What's important is how balanced it was. Did it just reward the top recruiters? Those in early at the top will have their matrix full when MHA has at least 6561 members. I know over 1000 people joined the first day.
Although you get $10.00 or $20.00 monthly residual from people you enroll, the matrix only pays out $1.00 to $3.00 per person. Most people may fit into the first four levels if they work it hard and earn in the $39.00 to $120.00 range as a guess. You also earn a 10 to 20% matching bonus on recruits.
This means The My Harvest America Comp Plan paid out a 10% or 20% Matching Bonus check through 5 levels based on what someone below you does .
The cost to join was about $40 bucks and the monthly was about $30 or $50 (or you can do both, perhaping thinking you'll make more money).
I find some sponsors who email you with one program after another, almost as if to ask you to MLM HOP with them. People, don't be a network marketing kangaroo. Find a program you believe in, that you believe will last a long long time and stick with it. Don't be tempted to join something or someone because "it sounds good". My feeling is that My Harvest America will come out of the gate fairly fast and have some quick growth. Then it should slow down, fade fast and probably go out of business. (my prediction came true).
You probably know that My Harvest America no longer sells groceries. I heard there were problems getting the groceries out to people on time and correctly but I don't know what really happened.
What My Harvest America was doing in 2011 is selling discount gift cards to its members. For example, you buy a gift card for $100.00 and you can turn around and use it for either $125.00 or $140.00 in purchases.
You qualified by enrolling in MHA for about fifty bucks and you paid a monthly charge of either $29.95 or $49.95. The one you choose determines whether you get the 25% or 40% added value to the card. Was it worth it?
Well, it seemed to me you're going to have to spend money to "save" money. And if you happen to be low on funds and can't buy a gift card or forget to do so, a month could slip by and you've paid money for nothing. Seems to me if you bought a $100.00 gift card and "saved" 25% you would still be out a few dollars from your monthly fee, not to mention the $50 up fron cost.
There may have been some other changes with MHA I'm not aware of but I've been told by a former insider that it appears MHA is probably not going to be around much longer for reasons too serious to mention here.
Interestingly, another company that offers groceries as their product, launched on July 1st 2010. It has had a great deal of growth since then because it doesn't have any monthly charges and has a low one time cost.
